As if this previous story wasn’t ridiculous enough, I couldn’t help but stumble upon this gem:

This past Saturday morning, 18-year old Olivia Ornelas was arrested for an Illinois DUI. As police questioned her, Ornelas revealed that she got intoxicated because she was so angry at her boyfriend for not taking her to see Twilight: Breaking Dawn this weekend.

Ornelas was charged with an IL DUI as well as underage drinking. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be charged with poor taste in movies.

Luckily there is an experienced Illinois DUI attorney who can fight her charges. However, we cannot guarantee he or she can get Ornelas a movie ticket.

It’s a relief for many people when they get their court case dismissed. With the help of a skilled PA DUI attorney, you can get your PA DUI charges reduced or even dropped.

However, what if people found out that a DUI offender is friends with the court’s judge on Facebook? Does this look bad?

This seems to be the case in Philadelphia where people are speculating Judge Charles Hayden’s dismissal of key evidence in state house member Cherelle Parker’s DUI. Apparently, Hayden and Parker are friends on Facebook and people think this may give Parker an unfair advantage.

Yes, Parker is a politician and that creates a lot of speculation to begin with, but how integral is it that she is friends with the judge on Facebook?

One minute he’s giving you lessons on how to be a better person and the next he’s getting a DUI.

Father Peter Jones, an Australian priest, was arrested this weekend for drinking and driving.

It’s quite shocking to see a man of cloth get a DUI. However, it’s even more shocking to find out that his BAC at the time of arrest was .341. Wow.

In the United States, if you’re BAC is way above the legal limit, your DUI punishments are likely to become harsher. In some cases, you may even be charged with a felony.  This is why it is necessary to have a DUI attorney on your side.

Everybody’s physiology is different and we all absorb alcohol at a different rate. No matter what, it is important to hire an experienced DUI attorney if you have been arrested for a DUI of any sort.

So, What Exactly IS Morgue Duty?

Posted on by
Comments

Even if you are actively trying to avoid the tabloids, I am sure you are well-versed in Lindsay Lohan’s legal troubles this week.

As you know, Lindsay Lohan is required to work in a morgue as punishment for her crimes.

So, you ask, what is morgue duty? If you’re convicted of a DUI, are you going to have to be in a room with dead bodies all day?

Here’s the truth:

Morgue duty is actually a very common form of community service. Many people who have been arrested for a DUI avoid jail by opting for community service, parole, and/or alcohol education courses.  Community service is a preferable form of punishment as it allows you to stay at home and avoid other incredible inconveniences that come with being jail (you know, inconveniences such as being in jail.)

Tasks you are required to perform in morgue duty are mostly janitorial. You will not be working around corpses, but don’t expect not to see a dead body in your periphery. After all, you’re in a morgue.  You’re usually required to wash linens, clean plastic sheets, mop the floors, and clean the bathroom and work areas. So, rest assured, you don’t need to cut anyone open or watch for ghosts and zombies or anything like that.

There is a however… however.

Morgue Duty serves two purposes in terms of the justice system. It is a method of community service and it aims to teach/scare people about what can happen if you make irresponsible decisions. Whereas you won’t be face-to-face with corpses all day, many morgue programs require participants to watch an autopsy. It can definitely be pretty traumatic, but many people believe this helps people change their ways about the choices they make.

So, that’s pretty much morgue duty in a nutshell. It may be an option for you if you wish to avoid jail. Remember, the only way to request jail alternatives is to hire an experienced DUI to fight y our charges. If you have been arrested for a DUI, talk to a DUI lawyer today.

Disney Star Gets DUI – Burbank Jail Renamed "Mickey Mouse Club"

Mitchel Musso, the non-Miley star of Hannah Montana, was arrested for a CA DUI in Burbank this weekend. He currently stars on Disney’s Pair of Kings and Phineas and Ferb.

Musso was pulled over after he failed to obey police officers directing traffic at an intersection. He wasn’t slowing down as he approached the intersection, prompting police to pull him over. Musso failed both the breathalyzer and the field sobriety test.

Sorry if the following sounds dumb. However, if you ever worry about police pulling you over, the best thing to do is follow all traffic laws when you see any sign of the police in the area. Sure, they may be investigating another incident. However, you never completely know why a police officer is present. Therefore, it is in your best interest to be extra careful in obeying traffic laws.

In other Disney DUI news, Shelby Cobra received her sentence this week for the DUI she got last month. The former singer for the Disney band, KSM, is required to attend alcohol education classes and pay over $1,000 in fines. Additionally, she is required to participate in the LA County Hospital and Morgue program where DUI offenders are required to witness autopsies amongst other procedures.

If it can happen to a Disney star, it can happen to anyone. If you have been arrested for a DUI in California, talk to a CA DUI attorney today!

Happy Drunk Birthday, Alice Walton! (P.S. A TX DWI is not a Good Birthday Present.)

Posted on by

If you fall under any of these circumstances, it astounds me if you are unable to find a designated driver:

1.)    It’s your birthday.

2.)    You’re a billionaire heiress.

Despite falling under both these categories, Alice Walton, the heiress to Wal-Mart, still managed to get arrested for a TX DWI on her birthday.

Isn’t it a rule that the birthday person shouldn’t drive? Also, isn’t it another rule that a billionaire should be able to afford a chauffeur?

Despite this, people tend to get arrested for drunk driving on their birthdays all the time. In fact, DWI arrests are rampant during holidays, weddings, and other celebrations.

If you celebrated too hard and got arrested, here are some tips on how to save your license after a DWI in Texas. Also remember that an experienced TX DWI attorney is waiting for your call to help you get your charges reduced or dropped.

If you’re gearing up for a party and want to avoid getting a TX DWI, do some proper planning. Maybe ask a friend to be the designated driver or have the number for a cab in your phone.

GA to Decide Whether to Lift Ban of Alcohol on Sundays. Will GA DUI rate be affected?

Posted on by
Comments

If you have been arrested for a DUI in GA, you know that this is a very serious ordeal. Georgia DUI laws are very harsh and a person could spend time in jail, even after a first arrest!

Given the nature of GA DUI laws, it is interesting to find out that the state will soon have an election to remove the ban of the sale of alcohol on Sundays.

If you’re not from Georgia, you may be surprised to learn that you cannot buy alcohol on Sundays. (Pray tell, what if you need to go on an extra beer run on Super Bowl Sunday?) However, this law has been around for a very long time.

If Georgia were to pass this law, the sale of alcohol on Sundays could help the state financially. Business would improve and sales and tax revenues would increase.

However, even in these times, the removal of this ban is still pretty controversial. There are 14 states that still have a ban on alcohol sales on a Sunday.

Regardless of the citizens’ ideologies about the issue, if GA were to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays, how will this affect the DUI rate in the state? Would people be more inclined to get behind the wheel while intoxicated? Would Georgia DUI laws become harsher if the ban is lifted?

Obviously, these questions will be answered in time, but if you’re dealing with a DUI in Georgia right now, you must find help immediately.

Arrested for a NY DWI and Still Be Able to Drive? Yes! It’s Possible!

If you have been arrested for a DWI in New York, you may think your life is over. You’re worried that you’ll be unable to drive; you’ll lose your job, or even spend time in jail.

Yes, these consequences are possible if you don’t make the wise choice and hire a NY DWI attorney.

One very important fear you may have is the possibility of losing your license. How will you drive to work? How will you pick your kids up from school?

Well, with the help of a skilled NY DWI attorney, you can qualify for a conditional license through the New York Drinking Driver Program, or DDP.

DDP is a series of classes held for a couple of hours a week for about 7 weeks. You will evaluate the conditions of your arrest, learn about the effects of alcohol, and become better equipped to make smarter choices when getting behind the wheel.

If you qualify for the DDP, you will have a conditional license. This means that you are legally allowed to drive but you have a lot of limitations. Most people with conditional licenses are only allowed to drive to work or pick up their kids. Although it seems very annoying to have a limit to where and when you can drive, most people feel very thankful to have a provisional license after a DWI in New York.

If you have been arrested for a DWI in New York, see if you qualify to participate in the DDP. The only way you can successfully find out if you qualify is to hire an experienced New York DWI attorney. An experienced NY DWI attorney, such as John Ingrassia, understands the consequences of a NY DWI and knows you want to keep your license.

With the compassion of a NY DWI attorney and their keen knowledge of NY DWI laws, you can save your license and your overall freedom.

What were you up to in 2010?

Was it driving drunk?

According to the Center for Disease Control, 4 million Americans admitted to driving drunk this past year.  According to the CDC’s data, this estimates about 112 million instances of an intoxicated driver on the road.

However, on the good side, perhaps, is that the number of people who admitted to driving drunk has decreased by 30% over the past five years.

A lot of people think they can get away with getting behind the wheel after a few drinks. Some of them even do. However, you never know when there’s a cop behind you. You never know when the day will come when you won’t be able to get away with operating your vehicle after drinking.

Cops tend to get you when you least expect it, but the smart thing to do is be prepared. Head to the profile page of top NY DUI attorney Jeffrey Jowdy for pointers. Look over the list of top secret ways you can avoid a DUI. Although this page is directed to help people who have been arrested for a DUI in New York, all of the tips can help all across the country.

College Football Star Cornelius Washington Arrested for GA DUI

Oh boy. If you have been arrested for a DUI in Georgia, chances are you feel like you let a lot of people down.

Now, imagine if you were a college football star! Yikes.

Starting linebacker for the Bulldogs, Cornelius Washington, was arrested for a GA DUI this past Sunday.

As per university rules, Washington will have to sit out for 20% of the games within the regular season, which means Washington will be a bench warmer for a total of two games.

According to GA DUI laws, Washington could potentially face jail time, hefty fines, and license revocation.

More importantly, however, Washington will have to watch his team face a big competitor, Tennessee, without his athletic expertise on the field. The only thing he can do is cross his fingers.

You don’t need to be an all-star athletic to get a lawyer if you have been arrested for a DUI in Georgia. You also don’t need to cross your fingers in hoping to avoid jail.

If you have been arrested for a DUI in Georgia, there is an experienced GA DUI attorney waiting for your call. Contact a Georgia DUI lawyer today and fight your charges.  Don’t let your GA DUI make you a bench warmer for good.

State Investigator Gets CO DUI

Posted on by

Just like Denver DUI Attorney Lloyd L. Boyer says, “Your Colorado DUI charge has the potential to negatively impact your entire life…”

It looks like a state investigator who is running for the city council in Commerce City, CO is currently learning this lesson right now.

This past weekend, Joe Sandoval was arrested for a Colorado DUI. Sandoval is former police officer who is currently a criminal investigator for the Colorado Department of Revenue. He had his heart set on a spot in the city council, but it looks like his CO DUI arrest might get in the way.

When he was pulled over, Sandoval flashed his badge when an officer asked him to show his identification. During the CO DUI arrest, he asked officers repeatedly to not make him go through with the arrest because he was running for city council. Sandoval’s efforts were unsuccessful.

A DUI in Colorado? Well, that is certain to harm Sandoval’s campaign, employment, and personal life. However, an attempt to dodge a DUI in Colorado and failing to do so? Well, that certainly makes matters a lot worse, doesn’t it?

If you have been arrested for a DUI in Colorado, don’t put your foot in your mouth. Talk to an experienced Colorado DUI attorney today. Don’t let a Colorado DUI arrest turn your life into complete disrepair.

New Four Loko Packaging Features Alcohol Content Warning

Posted on by

What isn’t in Four Loko these days? It seems each week there’s a story about how there’s yet another chemical in this nasty malt liquor concoction that may or may not make you grow a third arm.

Needless to say, after an investigation in false advertising by the Federal Trade Commission, Phusion Projects (the makers of Four Loko) will create new packaging for the drink. It will include a lid that can reseal and a warning that states that this beverage has the alcohol equivalent of four and a half beers.

Wait. Four and a half beers?

Okay, I’ve been giving advice on how to avoid a DUI conviction for years and it looks like my number one tip has suddenly changed.

The best way to avoid a DUI conviction?

For the love of all that is holy, don’t drink Four Loko.

Save it for cheap college students…

Or for people who actually enjoy jail.
